Abstract :
A novel ring antenna with pattern and frequency reconfigurability is proposed in this paper. Ring structure can increase the effective length of radiation element of an antenna within the finite dimension. The proposed antenna´s dimension with respect to the operating frequency(2 GHz and 2.4 GHz) is 44 mm × 44 mm. Three switches are used in the antenna to achieve different radiation patterns and operating frequencies. When only one of the three switches is closed, the antenna can provide the patterns that point at two of the six directions at 2 GHz. When two of the three switches are closed, the antenna can provide two of the six different patterns at 2.4 GHz. The bandwidths are 1.85 GHz-2.10 GHz for 2 GHz, and 2.2 GHz-2.5 GHz for 2.4 GHz. The antenna can be used in many applications.
