Abstract :
Device operation of a reverse blocking GTO in the PWM current source inverter circuit (CSI) is discussed. Reverse blocking GTO CSIs have an advantage over the normal GTO CSI configuration in reduction of the conduction losses by removing the reverse blocking diode which is connected to the GTO in series. In the passive turn-off operation, however, extremely large currents flow through the RB-GTO in the backward direction during the reverse recovering process because of hole injection from the p-base, causing a large loss
