Abstract

In engineering applications, the design of an artifact evolves over time where the design process is iterative and tentative. Multiple versions of an object coexist in databases. The paper analyzes some problems of engineering design evolution in a versioning frame and presents the version support and management in CIMS/EDBMS. Cooperative design is discussed in more detail, while an evolution mechanism for instance versions is also proposed. Adopted methods support top down or bottom up creation of a design object version
