Abstract :
The incidence of dynamic rock disasters is closely related to the distribution of stress in the surrounding rock. For the safety requirement of the construction and the operation of underground caverns, the stress of surrounding rock is monitored to evaluate the stability of underground caverns. The construction of spillway tunnel in Wawushan project was taken as our research object. We studied the characteristics of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) signals in uniaxial compression experiments of Wawushan rock samples, and tested the law of EMR signals responding to the stress distribution of the Excavating cavern. The study shows that the higher the stress of surrounding rock, the stronger the EMR signals. EMR signals reflect the stress distribution and change of the surrounding rock. So EMR technology can test qualitatively the stress distribution and the stress concentration area of the surrounding rock, and provide the reliable basis for reducing dynamic rock disasters induced by the stress concentration.
