Abstract :
“What comes after microprocessors?” is really the question of what does one build next on silicon after one meets the demand for microprocessors. Since 1965, silicon has been used to build computers, culminating in the microprocessor. However, the microprocessor seems to be maturity in architecture and penetration. What does one invent next to populate the acres of silicon produced each year with new added value? Quick fixes do not look promising. Looking at the problems and solutions of technology, one can identify a candidate. A look at technology time scales gives one some expectation of when it will appear
