Abstract :
All three papers in this section are addressing the simulation-based optimisation of non-functional aspects at system level. The first paper proposes to separate the computation from communication and from complex data-types to enable more efficient design space exploration of embedded HW/SW systems. The second describes a SystemC based design flow for fast prototyping of complex embedded systems. The main idea is to enrich the simulation model by estimated power and performance figures for hardware and software components at basic block level. By doing so, the authors want to achieve a functional model reflecting both, power and timing. The annotation of timing estimates for software source code is difficult. Especially when the code is highly optimised it is challenging to associate execution times of binary code with source code positions. The final paper in this session proposes a solution for this important problem.
