Abstract :
This paper presents the effect of nano-SiO2 on the thermal stability of composite materials. A series of composites with different nano-SiO2 contents are prepared by polymerizing nano-SiO2, chopped carbon fiber and bismalemide resin. Nanocomposites are characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis. The results indicate that the content of nano-SiO2 exhibit significant improvements on glass transition temperature (Tg) with Tg elevation by increasing concentration of nano-SiO2. The elevatory Tg is the result of steric hindrance by nano-SiO2 particles in the nano-composite.
