Abstract :
The development of effective and affordable health management applications to perform integrated systems test and diagnosis across diagnostic levels of indenture has never been more critical to the successful deployment and life cycle support of complex systems. Several different approaches to integrating health management applications have been discussed in the literature (e.g., AI-ESTATE, ATML, or OSACBM); however, the author has been focusing in recent years on the evolution and integration of health management application design and analysis components through model-driven approaches. Methodologies which leverage techniques for model reuse are essential for reducing the costs associated with health management application development. Previous papers have discussed prototypical implementations of model-based tool chains or methodologies for analyzing process flow to ascertain potential areas of information intersection that could benefit from integration approaches. This paper will take a more direct approach and argue that numerous areas of information intersection and duplication exist within every enterprisepsilas attempts to develop IVHM analytical models to support various IVHM sub-disciplines (safety, reliability, testability, etc). I will further assert that significant technological, political, and cultural changes are absolutely necessary at the enterprise level to reduce the costs associated with supportability analysis and health management application development. This model and analysis integration is essential if supportability analysis and health management application development is to become part of an affordable design methodology that can provide the life cycle cost (LCC) reductions demanded by todaypsilas streamlined military and commercial procurement processes.
