Abstract :
Conductive polymers, polypyrrole(PPy), polyaniline (PANi) and polythiophene(PTi) films were prepared by direct coating on the surface of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) substrate. We studied their biocompatibility through the adhesion, spreading and proliferation properties of PC 12 cells. All of the films were found to be biocompatible and allowing for cell adhesion, spreading and proliferation. But their biocompatibilities were different. By contrast, PTi had much higher adhesion rate than PPy and PANi. Besides, the overall rate of cell proliferation on the conductive surface, although initially increased, was familiar with PTFE surfaces. After 2 days of culture on different surfaces, the cells formed confluent monolayers, which were morphologically indistinguishable. The results demonstrated that the PPy, PANi and PTi film could be used to culture neurotic cell and open the possibility of using them as biocompatible coating materials for neurol probe.
