Abstract :
We present the test of mechanical properties of a new PVA composite wire reinforced with water-soluble MWNT. The composite wires of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT) were prepared by simple coating process and the effect of carbon nanotubes on the mechanical properties of PVA was investigated. Compared to PVA coating wires, the addition of 5 wt. % MWNT intensively increased the tensile strength and Young´s modulus of PVA composite fibers by over 60%. The toughness of the composites was increased remarkably by adding a small amount of MWNTs in relation to the unique specialities of the carbon nanotubes.
