Abstract :
Mesh-based overlay has emerged as a promising scalable solution for distributing live video stream, but it relies on random selections of neighbors, without optimizing the overlay by exploiting peer location and bandwidth, which leads to high delay incurred during video diffusion. In order to reduce the diffusion delay, we design a Location and Bandwidth (LB) balance overlay with hierarchical structure, in which a LB balance scheme proposed is used to select neighbors of each peer. Then a distributed construction algorithm presented in the paper describes peer join, peer departure and dynamic adjustment of overlay structure. Experiments show that our LB balance overlay, outperforming substantially traditional approaches, can achieve low diffusion delay and be resilient to churn.
