Abstract :
Li ion is a relatively new energy storage technology that has been developed and commercialized within the past 15 years for many products especially portable power. More recently further development has been undertaken to explore the high power capability of this technology. The results indicate that advanced products can provide very high power capability in excess of 12kW/kg. Rapid advances are also occurring to further improve this capability in anticipation of needs for compact high power sources to power lasers, DE and other advanced applications. With this new capability alternative direct drive concepts are now being developed to reduce system complexity, cost, size and weight
