Abstract
Fault section identification in distribution networks is a complicated and important subject. This paper presents a method to distinguish the faulted section with the aid of traveling waves. The proposed algorithm is able to detect the faulty section using voltage signals only and avoid the need for installing current transformers. Fault direction identification method proposed in this paper is based on wavelet coefficients of transients generated by the fault. The simulation studies show that the proposed scheme can work properly in the case of all types of faults, different fault inceptions, different fault locations and fault resistances.
