Abstract :
Application development of high temperature superconductors (HTSs) has gone through from prospective enthusiasm to today´s realistic realization since the HTS was discovered in 1986. Depending on the special characteristics of superconducting materials, with high power electronic devices, an experimental system for HTS coil has been developed. The experimental results obtained verify that the HTS coil is favorable for storing magnetic energy, and thus the practical superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system has been built. Theoretical analysis with the experimental SMES has been carried out and presented in the paper, which provides an indispensable base for further optimization of the energy storage system (ESS).
