Abstract :
SPEAKeasy is a DoD R&D effort developing a multiband multimode radio (MBMMR) capable of 2 MHz to 2 GHz operation, employing waveforms selected from memory, or downloaded from floppy disk. The key is the publication of the open system architecture radio specification. A joint government/industry forum provides feedback and insight into the design. This way, other manufacturers will be able to produce modules that will play with the SPEAKeasy architecture. While originally conceived and designed for military applications to bridge tactical radio systems in use by different services, this technology can also meet diverse requirements of civil and commercial sectors as well
