  • Abstract
In 1993, DARPA and CECOM embarked on a program called Commercial Communications Technology Testbed (C2T2). The goal of C2T2 was to systematically evaluate the applicability of commercial communication systems to tactical users, specifically the dismounted infantry. This paper discusses the use of a multicasting capability, one of the unique features of that system, to create a “common view of the battlefield” and assess the impact of high link error rates caused by very adverse tactical RF environments. Data collected during the Warrior Focus AWE is analyzed and implications are discussed for future tactical internet communication systems for dismounted infantry
