  • Abstract
    The 3D visualization of large data dynamic terrain details need to use the simplified model of the level of detail techniques (LOD) to improve the efficiency of three-dimensional visualization, and the quadtree can optimize the data structure of the complex date. The quadtree LOD model adopted in this essay is based upon the terrain data which are both layered and partitioned. The essay first discusses the development of the LOD model, then introduces the theory of the quadtree-based LOD techniques and algorithm; finally, predicts the further development of the LOD in the future.
