Abstract :
Voice over IP over Bluetooth (VoIPoB) is a new technology that combines wireless and Internet technologies. The audio information is sent as data bits over the packet-switched Bluetooth Asynchronous ConnectionLess (ACL) link rather than the circuit-switched Synchronous Connection- Oriented (SCO) link that is used at present. Header compression is a key aspect of efficient use of bandwidth. A MatLab software simulator was built in order to test the robustness of a chosen header compression technique and to investigate the resultant speech quality. The simulator determines the performance of the header compression technique to be modelled under different assumptions of the parameters: flow label, hop limit and sequence number. The situation for other packet types, data rates, channel reliability and Personal Area Network (PAN) topologies and routing is being investigated with this modelling tool.
