Abstract :
Intelligent networks today, using technologies such as multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) and software-defined networking (SDN), are unlike networks of the past. Virtualized networking and routing tools have been created that operate independently from physical network topology. MPLS is a type of data traffic routing protocol for core and wireless Internet networks which originated in the 1990s. Its usage has grown enormously in next-generation networking as it is considered superior in many ways to traditional routing for its traffic control and engineering capabilities, especially in 4G LTE wireless networks. This research discusses the ramifications for end-user privacy in the application of functionality provided by MPLS routing, deep packet inspection (DPI) and policy-based routing.
