Abstract :
Some of the requirements and drivers for video on demand (VoD) servers are presented in the context of a networked system. The storage capacity, the standard delivery format, hybrid servers, and the delivery system hierarchies are discussed. The major design requirements identified are summarized by considering the following: the user interface constraints; the functionality required of the VoD service; and the many conflicting demands of the server system
