Abstract :
The hypothesis that increased power factor problem would exist in the Nigerian National grid with growth of heavy industries such as the Ajaokuta Steel Company, the Iron and Mining Industries, Aladja steel and other steel related developmental projects is demonstrated here with a complete characterization of the drive. In this presentation, the non - linearities that influences the parameters of a DC motor drive is considered to ensure that equations that represent the intervals of operation of the asymmetrical single - phase drive are accurate. Four intervals of operation of the drive were considered and explicit equations for current developed for each interval of operation. The resulting equation was simulated to establish the Input Power Factor Problem of drives.
