Abstract
This paper discusses the development of automation projects for hydroelectric generating facilities owned and operated by Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU), USA. This includes the background of plant operations and the recent implementation efforts that allowed TPU to operate all their hydro facilities in a fully unstaffed manner. Discussion of TPUs near term plans for installing a new SCADA system and integration with present hydroplant control systems is also included
