Abstract
Energy intensity is one of important indicator to measure energy efficiency. The key to effectively improve the energy efficiency is to explore the factors that influence the changes in energy intensity. For the decomposition of the problem of energy intensity, the index decomposition is a relatively new approach. This paper adopts refined Laspeyres index decomposition model to analyze the energy intensity of Tianjin from 1990 to 2008 and seek the dominant effect that lead to changes in energy intensity. The empirical results show that energy efficiency effect is the dominant effect of changes in energy intensity. Changes in energy efficiency are mainly from the energy efficiency of the secondary and tertiary industries. Only achieving the high energy efficiency, we can achieve sustainable economic development. So researching the dominant effect of Tianjin energy intensity change plays an important role in making energy strategy.
