Abstract
This paper describes a version of the Phase Shifted Full Bridge (PSFB) converter topology that achieves Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) of the primary side controlled switches over a very wide load range, has minimal loss of output voltage due to commutation delay, that reduces the excess current flowing through the transformer and primary switches during the freewheeling period all with minimal additional components, particularly no extra controlled switches, no extra diodes in series with any of the current paths and no extra magnetic components. This topology has been prototyped at the 4kW level with outputs of 48V/80A and 24V/160A. The 48V version has been put into volume production in the form of Argus 4kW switch-mode rectifiers for telecom applications.
