Abstract :
Lime-treated soil samples were made by mixing lime and Xigeda soil with different contents of lime. In order to evaluate the effects of contents of lime on the mechanical property and strength of lime-treated Xigeda soil, the conventional triaxial compression tests were performed on 24 sets of samples under drained and undrained conditions. The results demonstrated experimentally that: (i) the cementation between soil particles due to different contents of lime has great influence on the stress-strain, pore water pressure development, volumetric deformation and strength characteristics; (ii) the strength of the lime-treated soil has increased greatly. However, with the increase of content of lime the strength of the lime-treated soil is increased nonlinearly; and (iii) when the content of lime increases, Xigeda soil samples behave softening easily and dilate obviously under low confining pressure and have higher strength and contract relatively slightly under high confining pressure. Finally a new expression of strength index of lime-treated soil, varying with the content of lime, was proposed.
