Abstract :
Due to its high channel capacity, an ultra-wideband (UWB) system is an attractive solution for very high data rate (>100 Mb/s) short-range wireless communication applications. Among the different options for the efficient use of the available UWB spectrum, the Multi band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) approach has received strong support from several industrial organizations. However, the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) limits its capacity due to distortion caused by nonlinear component such as high power amplifier. Hence, it is necessary to reduce the PAPR of MB-OFDM UWB signals. In this paper, the effects of clipping for PAPR reduction and filtering to suppress out of band clipping noise on the performance of MB-OFDM UWB signals are analyzed through computer simulations. In the analysis, power spectral density (PSD) and bit error rate (BER) are used as performance measures. Our results demonstrated that clipping and filtering after clipping is a promising technique for the transmission of MB-OFDM UWB signals.
