Abstract :
This paper considers the downlink of the multicarrier (MC)-CDMA for mobile communications, in which mobile equipments like portable phone handsets usually have two antennas equipped closely. If moving through places having weak RF power from the transmitter, the handsets sometimes experience the situation that all the channels are blocked. In such a case, receivers of the conventional systems can extract no signals during the blocking period. Without requiring expansion of time, transmit power and bandwidth, this paper proposes a scheme of the MISO (multiinput single-output)-STBC (space-time block coding) with time diversity for the downlink MC-CDMA to overcome the channel blocking. The proposed system allows the receivers to extract all the signals even when the mobile equipments encounter the channel blocking. The theoretical analysis is made to assess the property of the proposed system, which verifies that the proposed system provides rather good bit error rate (BER) performance in such blocking situation.
