Abstract :
The Power Grid is the backbone that has been facilitating the distribution and supply of electricity right from generation till the consumer. The introduction of the concept of a Smart Grid has brought in the integration of intelligence and the associated communication capabilities to the power grid. The power grid spreads over a wide geographical terrain and has different deployment scenarios based on specific requirements. The various devices used in the power grid also have different characteristics. These diversities bring in the necessity to apply different network options. This paper presents different network options possible for the communication of the Smart Meters with the utility based on different deployment scenarios.
