Abstract :
Battery diesel hybrid technology has often been viewed as an alternative to handle grid deficit telecom base station installations by using Telecom VRLA batteries and generators for the backup power requirements. Luminous Teleinfra has developed Energy Management and Backup System for Indoor and Outdoor telecom base installations alongwith renewable plug-in option. Recent field trial results around more than fifty sites shows promising alternative to the commercial battery diesel hybrid system which are presently being deployed using a standalone external controller. Battery used in these systems has been customised to handle problems such as the partial state of charge problems and quick charge acceptance parameter associated with the application. Battery performance has been optimized through field testing and data compilation of various types of site conditions observed in base station backup operation. This paper presents the experiences at two installations in India where the EMBU solutions are providing backup power for telecom base station applications. Conclusions on Overall operational cost, battery performance, Energy management and efficiency of integration over trial will be shared.
