  • Abstract
The CSS algorithm used to encode DVDs is not a strong encryption method. There are many weaknesses and many possible attacks are possible due to those weaknesses. However this is not important to the movie makers, what is important is that there are some speed bumps in copying DVDs, which makes it easier to prosecute movie piracy. Since there are so many laws against piracy, the algorithm need not be updated. In essence the algorithm was not intended to be strong.
