Abstract :
This paper discusses the various aspects related to instrument discovery and connectivity of LXI instruments. Alternatives for IP address configuration (DHCP, AutolP, static IP) are presented in detail along with consequences for system management and maintenance. A topic of increasing importance is security. Requirements regarding firewall configuration are mentioned and explained. Due to the complexity of network configurations, troubleshooting may become necessary. This document gives basic guidance in that regard. Finally, an overview of LAN performance aspects as they relate to LXI instruments conclude the paper.
