Abstract :
A multiuser decoder/demodulator is presented that uses successive cancellation within the Viterbi (1990) decoder of each user in a code-division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. The decisions of high power users take into account decisions on several lower power users symbols and several hypothesis trellis paths are considered. The method is shown to perform significantly better than the traditional interference cancellation detector. The number of hypotheses and the number of low power users to cancel can be set as parameters so that the method provides for flexible computational complexity
