Abstract
In this paper we examine several aspects of performance and connection management during handoffs and interface switching in mobile computing environments. We demonstrate the insufficiency of network layer mobility protocols to preserve high-performance operation of reliable transport protocols such as TCP under certain circumstances. We also introduce a mobility-aware transport, Mobile TCP, that maintains robust operation despite lossy mobile activity. Experimental results are presented and discussed
