Abstract :
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an emerging technology and process. It is providing new information that can be translated into business or system intelligence, automation, and innovation in any industry. Wal-Mart, for example, has used the technology to completely transform their retail distribution process. Using RFID tag and reader systems, the company has automated product tracking from suppliers, to distribution centers, all the way through product sales inside their stores. Knowing what products are available and where they are located, Wal-Mart has used the intelligence to effectively manage their supply chains, eliminate out-of-stock items, reduce large inventory centers in their stores, etc. Their innovation has resulted in billions of dollars in cost savings that can be passed on to the consumers. They have also significantly increased the reliability of transactions in the retail market which has increased customer satisfaction.
