Abstract
Zone access control using retractable barriers is being increasingly applied to decrease the amount of traffic in certain areas or on certain roads. High requirements to design and layout of the sites and to the barrier itself have to be considered. In this paper the importance of these requirements is explained. Finally, the experiences with the measure in the cities of ´s-Hertogenbosch and Vianen are described.
