Abstract :
Motion analysis in sports is important to evaluate the performance of athletes. This paper will be looking into the stability of the hands in sporting activities such as archery, while aiming. Various techniques have been developed to quantify the stability without the need of physical attachments on the subject. A positioning acquisition system is developed for applications in real time processing. The system involves integration of hardware and software to acquire and visualize data of the ultrasound sensors. The ultrasound sensors present a reasonable comprise between cost and accuracy. A user friendly graphical user interface (GUI) is created using whereby the system provides options of either real-time system monitoring or post processing option for data retrieval. The overall system is developed to analyze data captured from the ultrasound sensors using fast sampling techniques to process the acquired data. The linear and angular motion that is needed to analyze the hand stability of the athletes is obtained through the implementation of four sets of ultrasonic sensors. It is a low cost implementation system with easy and simple hardware setup.
