Abstract
This paper begins by briefly discussing non-spread spectrum and low-end spread spectrum systems and describes how user dissatisfaction with the performance of these systems has led to misconceptions about spread spectrum limitations. The paper continues with a discussion of the proper application of techniques to achieve the superior performance offered by this technology. The discussion will cover basic implementations of interference suppression and interference avoidance techniques and advanced hardware and software techniques for performance enhancement. The paper concludes with caveats to the prospective user to ensure that the spread spectrum system he selects will serve his application now and continue to perform well as band congestion increases in the future
