Abstract :
Bubble movements in flow boiling in a horizontal serpentine tube were experimentally studied. The serpentine tube was made of quartz glass for flow observation and a CCD camera was used for recording flow images. Adjusting flowrate and heat flux obtained bubble flows throughout the tube. Bubbles were found to accelerate in the bend regions. A single-phase flow simulation was developed for revealing velocity and temperature details. The secondary flow at bends was found to interrupt the flow boundary layers at the bend and cause the extraordinary dynamic and thermal behaviors of bubbles.
