Abstract :
This paper presents a Cellular Automata based scheme for generating Single Error Correcting, Double Error Detecting and All Uni Directional Codes (SEC-DED-AUED). In addition to (n,k) SEC-DED code an additional r number of check bits are appended which are responsible for detecting all unidirectional errors. The r-check bits are generated exploiting the inherent properties of a special type of non-group Cellular Automata (CA). The proposed CA based scheme of generating AUED codes is very simple and needs much less hardware. The method can be extended for generation of t-error correcting d error detecting and all unidirectional error detecting codes (tEC-dED-AUED).
