Abstract
Liquid Xenon (LXe) has good properties required for radiation detector application, such as small W-value and W5-value, large electron drift velocities, and can be operated in ionization and scintillation mode. From the results so far reported, solid xenon (SXe) has similar properties to that of LXe and the electron drift velocity in SXe is faster than that of LXe. We have recognized the potential of xenon for radiation detector media in the solid phase to be as high as that of LXe. In this paper, we discuss the properties of SXe from the view point of radiation detection and propose a solid ionization chamber for studying these characteristics
