Abstract :
We consider a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication system with only statistical channel information available at the receiver. This assumption corresponds to the case of a rapidly varying channel, were channel estimation is difficult or impossible. A low complexity minimum mean squared error (MMSE) based detector is developed for the case where the channel covariance matrix is assumed to have a low rank. A space time block code (STBC) is used to code across multiple symbol vectors to increase the channel rank which can be handled by the detector. A MSE precoder is designed to further improve detection performance.
