Abstract :
Several exciting opportunities for the application of control technology have arisen over the last few years in the process industries. Particular topics of interest include autonomous systems, economic optimization, and system health management. Intelligent control-the synergistic integration of classical control with technologies such as neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, and chaos theory-is widely seen as a key to meeting these new challenges. However, the adoption of intelligent control by the control community requires a paradigm change-a progression from analytic to “post-analytic” control. Not just technology is at stake, but the processes and methodologies for research
