            Abstract : 
AVS-M is being constituted as the standard for mobile-multimedia applications in the near future in China. Therefore, the technologies adopted should be simpler but more efficient than AVS-1.0, which is focused on storage-oriented applications. In AVS-M, intra prediction with only 5 modes are adopted, followed by the result of less complexity and loss of coding efficiency compared to 9 modes in H.364. In this paper, a novel intra-prediction algorithm is presented for AVS-M, in which 9-mode prediction is used to improve the prediction precision and a fast method is used to reduce the computation complexity. Experiments proved that the proposed algorithm could reduce the encoding bit-rate and increase the PSNR for most video sequences.
