Abstract :
Microcellular structures are employed in order to maximize the spectrum efficiency of the radio system. Previous studies and measurements have examined a cell shape in urban areas with rectilinear streets in the form of a squared diamond with four tails that introduce overlapping coverage among the cells. The effect of this overlapping on the performance of the urban microcells is addressed. Stochastic analysis and simulation are used to quantify the effect of overlapping on the performance measures. The results demonstrate the improvement in the teletraffic performance measures and the resultant degradation in the signal-to-interference ratio, S/I
