  • Abstract
This paper presents a method, as a compensation to shape from shading, for reconstructing the shapes of self-shadowed regions. The method is based on the proposed principle that the distorted shape of a self-shadowed region should be enclosed within its boundary, in order not to destroy the global 3D result. It introduces the light source projected system, to simplify the problem and make it possible to recover the depth gaps across the self-shadowed data sections in rows. The parabolic interpolation can make a smooth connection of the reconstructed shadowed shapes with other regions. It has shown that this proposed method can improve the 3D results of shape from shading efficiently.
