Abstract
Motivated by the work of Wu and Duel-Hallen (1996) for synchronous code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems, this paper develops a scheme for combined data detection and channel estimation over asynchronous CDMA flat Rayleigh fading channels. The scheme combines the effective probabilistic data association approach for multiuser detection (MUD) with simple, disjoint, decision-directed Kalman channel estimators. Computer simulations show that the strategy is effective in tracking the channel and offers low bit-error rates (BER) for differentially encoded data.
