Abstract
A method is proposed for adaptive optimal model following control of a finite-dimensional linear system. Initially, a method is developed to design an optimal model matching control law for a known plant. This is achieved by transforming the model matching problem into an output regulator problem. Based on the above approach, a method is proposed for adaptive optimal model following control of an unknown plant. It is a combination of the recursive least-squares algorithm for parameter estimation from input-output data and the proposed model matching control law. Conditions have been derived for the boundedness of all the signals in the closed-loop system.<>
