Abstract :
The Rice distribution has been used as a good approximation to describe the statistics of the received signal in a mobile urban environment, particularly when a line of sight condition exists between transmitter and receiver, which is confirmed in this paper. Results of a study on the signal fading, based on measurements and on a ray tracing tool, are presented, showing that the radiation pattern of the antennas has a strong influence on the channel characteristics. The Rice parameter and second order statistics, level crossing rate and average fade duration, are analysed, both along the street and on an average value basis, in terms of the base station location, and antennas height, and of the roughness of the surfaces
