Abstract :
Batter pile usually is used as the foundation subjected to bigger horizontal load, such as the port, bridge, large span building, etc. The vertical bearing capacity of the batter pile usually is considered to be smaller. The Code stipulates that the deviation of the vertical design pile is less than 1%. The model experiments indicated that the vertical bearing capacity of the batter pile at a 5° angle is more than the vertical pile, and it is 1.3 times of that of vertical pile. So the slightly inclined vertical pile can be used as the engineering pile continuously due to construction technology or geological conditions etc.
