Abstract
Electrodeionization (EDI) as a combination of electrodialysis (ED) and ion exchange (IE), has been gradually applied in pharmaceutical, electronic, electric power, biological technology, etc. In this paper, the development history of new technology EDI is reviewed firstly, then configuration and working principles and economic and technological characteristics of EDI are briefly illustrated. What´s more, the specific application of EDI in water for Pharmaceuticals in our country is emphatically analyzed. It is put forward that the integrated membrane process based on EDI and reverse osmosis (RO) will be one of the most promising technologies of pharmaceutical water production in the 21st century.
